In The News: Website
Accessibility
"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone
regardless of disability is an essential aspect."
Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web
Website accessibility is becoming an increasingly important issue - promoting
the rights of the visually and physically diasbled to have the internet
equally available to them. In the UK alone, the Disability Discrimination
Act has encouraged campaigning organisations like the RNIB to champion
good web-design practices aimed at access for all, irrespective of their
levels of vision or mobility. Governmental and commercial bodies alike
are beginning to respond.
Internationally, major web creation software manufacturers have begun
to embrace the concept too. Adobe
Systems and Macromedia
are in the vanguard.
hostoffice is committed to this principle. We are working ourselves and
with clients to achieve high levels accessibility for all our current
and future output.
We've recently completed work on two significant web-accessible projects.
The Liverpool
Community Network and the Liverpool
Association for Disabled People - both using the commonly accepted
international standard for accessibility - "Bobby".
